Hello loves! Packing my luggage and it’s giving me a headache. The problem is that I wanna be as fashionable as possible because God knows how long I’ve been waiting for anything-but-Singapore-weather to happen to me hence the headache! What does one pack for winter effectively without carrying around too much bulky crap?! I don’t know. It’s been a long time since I packed for Winter climate so I’m a little grumpy cause there’s a whole load of clothes I wanna bring but I’m holding myself back telling myself it’s impossible for me, or for any girl to NOT shop so I need to leave sufficient space for new goods!

Anyways I will be staying with Dawn who has drawn up an amazing itinerary for me although her very hectic schedule and I’m so utterly grateful to her! I hope she doesn’t mind but I wanna share how her plans look like!

Hello everyone! I can’t believe I’ve been away for so long. Lately I’ve been in a mood ever since my birthday but finally have snapped out of it and am back to normal operating conditions. lol.

Recently I bought Harumi Kurihara’s cook book cause I’ve always wanted to try Japanese home cooking, and with the book costing only $24.90, I thought it was a must-have! And truly it is rather simple and in my opinion beautiful. I know beautiful isn’t exactly a word you use but you’ll know what I mean when making Japanese food.

Cold Tofu with Japanese sauce (serves 2)

This was supposed to be Deep Friend Tofu, however that takes about 45 minutes to make due to the draining of moisture from the tofu. This one improvised by me is much faster, still tasty and super easy to make.

• 1 pack of silken tofu
• 1/2 cup fish stock
• 1 tablespoon mirin
• 1 tablespoon soy sauce
• a little caster sugar
• a little salt
• spring onion
• ginger

1. In a small pan heat up the dashi stock, mirin, soy sauce, sugar and salt. Bring to boil, ensuring that sugar has dissolved.
2. Divide tofu between 2 bowls. Pour a little of the hot sauce into each bowl and garnish with ginger and spring onion.

Pan-friend fish with butter and salt. Simple and tasty!

Hey loves! Yesterday I woke up after four hours of sleep in the early morning and had an urge to eat an egg. And I did. I ate a heart shaped sunnyside up egg. After that I went back to sleep like the pig that I am and had happy dreams, mainly of more bacon and eggs. MMmm I just talked about being a pig and eating bacon… that is quite wrong.

I worked my last shift at the pub last night and I’m feeling quite melancholy about it, afterall, I had a great time with Miss E which was the only thing that kept me going thru tired feet and an aching back. At least my sleeping pattern will be back to regular hours.

Breakfast in bed is the best!

Hey folks! I’m back in the kitchen again! And you wonder… when I ever left!

My seafood pasta with a luxurious serving of scallops, prawns and seabass. One thing about seafood is you have to watch your heat and make sure you don’t overcook them. I always tell people that pasta is the easiest thing to cook and if you wanna start somwhere, you start with pasta. By the way, my favourite is angel hair pasta which is kinda like the Western version of of Beehoon (Rice vermicelli) noodle.

Guacamole.. I can never stop making them. I decided to make them cause I was making food for a vegetarian friend so out comes my very tiny knowledge on very tasty vegetarian food. hehe.

Mushroom soup made with 3 types of mushrooms! The recipe for this dish… I created myself. Although there really isn’t much to mushroom soup, cause everyone probably makes them the same. But I do feel a little proud of myself! I love my mushroom soup chunky. AND OH MY GOODNESS… I bought a new kitchen toy from TANGS! It’s the Philips Hand Blender…. LOVE IT TO BITS cause now I can make beautiful soups, dips and smoothies with ease. I have a fear of normal blenders cause they really rape your food! Yes RAPE!

Hello everyone! This morning after not sleeping the whole night I decided to make a hearty “breakfast” aka a meal I should not be eating before I sleep. But for some reason I had this urge to poach eggs. I’m sure you’ve watched it on Julie & Julia, the part where Julie attempts to poach an egg but totally fails. Well I failed, not totally, but it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. Two things I realized that were key factors to my failure. 1. The eggs were not fresh 2. the saucepan wasn’t deep enough. So while my poached eggs didn’t work out, I just mashed them up and ate them with salt + pepper on buttered toast. On a maybe similar note, I’m thinking of attempting to make kaya. Apparently it’s all the craze in north america now and was mentioned in Top Chef Masters. hehe.

Oh by the way, if you haven’t noticed, Sarah & The Flea was updated with some stuff. Will update more as the days go. Happy Mid-week!

Hello mi’ loves! I just had dinner with my dad whom I made lamb chops with risotto rice and fresh garden salad, for. Too bad my mum is enjoying her holiday in China right now. =/ He bought a rack of lamb from his recent trip to Adele and therefore it wasn’t exactly an option but a must to make it. My dad bought it for 30AUD while it would probably cost twice or even more here. Ah.. Thank you Gawd. I only managed to eat one lamb chop though cause halfway I pictured a little lamb running around a field of green and started to feel kinda sad. -_-

So anyways.. big news, or rather big impending news. There’s a high chance I’m gonna attend Culinary School some time this year! I’m not confirmed on it cause of some complications and many many skeptic thoughts running through my head… so… We’ll see. hehe.

Hello everyone! A rather or actually very sweet weekend passed for me. I ordered a few cupcakes from Yoke Bakery and they were yummy. I don’t know why but I cant never get the same results with mine. Many people commented that some of my baked goods aren’t as good as my other creations. It’s true! I can’t deny it and no matter what I will continue to working on it!

Thank you Alberta for the Sarah biscuit. hehe. I couldn’t bare to eat it until I kinda ran out of snack rations.

I made no bake Raspberry cheesecake. Note the no bake! So probably that’s why they were successful even though I didn’t follow the recipe exactly and went about it quite haphazardly (weighing scale ran out of battery u see). I had two myself. A little be shamed to be honest. hehe. I wanna share the recipes of course but they are gonna be used for a special project I’m doing with Dawn, who by the way, I am so proud to have a as a friend cause she’s been featured on Frankie magazine. Like wow! Congratulations once again my dear. Can’t wait to get 2 copies so that I can cut your spread out from one and stick it up on my wall.

Hello loves! It’s been awhile. I’ve missed my blog! Been extra busy this week! Stressed out some moments and some moments I had loads of fun being hard at work. Hello peeps! How was your Father’s Day?! I know it’s not Father’s Day all over the world but it was here, yesterday. I didn’t sleep Saturday night at all and worked in the kitchen by myself from 7-ish to 11am before taking a one hour nap then continuing at 12pm and then after lunch took another one hour nap then went to work. Surprisingly I wasn’t that exhausted as I thought I would be and was quite diligent.

So I made apple pie, ratatouille, meatballs with saffron rice and soup… the soup wasn’t all that great unfortunately. Don’t get me wrong, it was lovely to taste but the texture was unappealing. Bleh I NEED A handheld blender! :X Bah!

well it looks somewhat like that in the book.

You have to use two types of apples! And apples don’t come cheap! EEPS!
